Stowaway is pleased to announce “Come on up to the house” a solo presentation by Brooklyn-based Indiana Hoover, opening April 5th from 6-9pm.

In “Come on up to the house” Hoover presents a series of framed figurative paintings on canvas and paper. Much like the voice of Tom Waits, whose song the show title is pulled from, Hoover’s work is undressed, at times ragged, drenched and hung out to dry.

This beguiling rawness is carefully crafted in Hoover’s enigmatic practice. He is apt to remake a piece dozens of times, exploring and refining the gestures of his hand along with the repeated motifs found throughout his work. In his first West Coast solo presentation, Hoover again manages to hit all the wrong notes just right.

Indiana Hoover was born in New York City in 1987, and studied drawing & painting at the Art Students League, Laguna College of Art & Design, and CUNY Hunter. He lives and works in South Brooklyn.
